Hotel
La Joyuca del Pas
True to its name, La Joyuca is a little jewel on the Pas river. For 200 years, its stonework and rafters have gracefully sheltered the people who have lived and visited here. Like many old stone houses, La Joyuca was home to both farm animals and people in its early years. It was turned into a hotel about 30 years ago. The original house has been preserved, but we updated it to provide modern amenities for 21st century travelers like Smart TVs and Wifi.
This house has its own personality and story. The walls do talk if you listen carefully! Everyone who has owned it before me has contributed to its beauty. I am so lucky to be the person who has the privilege of caring for her now, adorning her with art from my travels both inside and outside of Spain. I am equally lucky to host wonderful tourists and pilgrims from all around the world here on the Camino del Norte.

La Joyuca was a gift from the Camino to me. I have been a pilgrim since 1997, and in 2023 I walked the Norte for the first time. When I walked through Cantabria and its gorgeous coastline, verdant green hills, and saw the snow capped Picos de Europa in the background, I felt like I was home.
It is my place on the planet, even though it couldn’t be further in most every respect from the small town in Texas where I was born. Shortly after returning to the USA from my 2023 pilgrimage, I decided to look for a rural hotel in Cantabria to call my own and only three weeks later, I found La Joyuca. I came to visit her, and well, the rest is history.
We strive to make every guest feel at home at La Joyuca. We hope you visit the Costa Quebrada and enjoy everything it has to offer, including our little gem on the Pas River.

Reception
From the moment you enter La Joyuca, you know you are in a special place. The African and Asian art and furniture seems at home alongside the Spanish coat of arms. Our beautiful decor welcomes you to the hotel as much as Laurie, Beau, and the La Joyuca staff. We are all here to make your stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.

The owner and her dog were friendly, and the room was very comfortable and had a view. She left her story in the room about how she came to own the place, which captivated me even more. The breakfast is 100% recommended and delicious.
Breakfast room

Highly, highly recommend. Turned up tired and early and was made to feel so at home and welcome. Had delicious pizza and Coke in the garden with the beautiful house dog, Beau. To top it all off, there was a complimentary laundry service.

Garden

We stayed for four days, and it was fantastic. Laurie, the administration, and the cleaning staff were all wonderful and made us feel right at home. We brought our dogs, and they were incredibly helpful, providing a garden where the dogs could run freely. It was a great experience.
Common areas
Whether you are traveling alone or with others, our common spaces offer comfortable sofas and chairs to sit, read, knit, or enjoy a coffee, tea, or glass of wine. We love sharing stories about the art we’ve collected from around the world to display at La Joyuca —just ask!

Absolutely gorgeous! Perfect location, very close to the train station. A very welcoming, sweet pup named Beau greeted us on arrival. Comfortable, clean garden, beautiful. Refreshing orange juice was provided on arrival. Filled with charm. Beautiful gardens and breakfast included.
