Beau, our friendly labrador owner / concierge / doorman / playmate looks forward to welcoming you and your dogs to La Joyuca:
Hey, I’m Beau
I’m Beau, the owner of La Joyuca del Pas. I am also the concierge. The doorman. And clearly, the boss. I am also in charge of managing all tennis balls on the property and occasionally digging holes, whether they are needed or not. Many people say that I am a good therapist because if you want me to, I will lean on you so that you can feel my love, and invite to rub my tummy.

I’d like to tell you about our little dog-friendly hotel in Spain. But first, I want to introduce you to our family.
I was born on the Texas/Mexico border and was abandoned, left in a box with my brothers and sisters on a street corner in Mission, Texas. I ended up in a shelter for a few days and from there, a rescue shipped my family to Washington, DC, where my mom lived, to be adopted. When my Mom came to get me, I told her my name was Beau because, well, it’s obvious, right? I’m very “beau”, which means handsome in French. For the first few years, she also called me “terrorist” because I didn’t really listen to anything that she said and I destroyed a lot of stuff. Now that I am six years old and a very very good boy, she calls me “angel” and says I am her “best boy”.
My Mom was born in Texas but lived all over the world, doing lots of different things. When I met her, she was doing water therapy for old and injured dogs. And she wrote a book with her first dog, Ganimedes, who she loved so much she thought her heart would explode. He taught her a lot about dogs and changed her life, she said. He died almost 15 years ago but she still misses him very much.
In 2023, she walked the Camino del Norte for the first time and fell in love with Cantabria. So, she decided to move us to Spain and bought this pretty hotel on the Camino where we can welcome pilgrims who miss their dogs and people from all over the world who are traveling with their dogs, along with lots of other nice people — whether they have dogs or not!
I also have a cat sister named Lola. She turned up at the hotel one morning when she was 6 weeks old, meowing and hungry, and my Mom said we had to help her. Mom reminded me that I was once hungry and needed a home, too. To repay my generosity, Lola stole my bed and my ball when she weighed less than a pound, so I was not a big fan. We have renegotiated and now I have my stuff back and I let her share my bed. Lola doesn’t come to the hotel very often now, but when she does, she climbs trees and purrs a lot.
The hotel was a family home for hundreds of years, and we treat everyone who comes to visit like they are family. If you’re a dog, or a person with a dog, you will love it here.
My Mom is very generous with the treats when you arrive, which I like because I always get one, too. Dogs get to play in the big garden and eat breakfast with their people on the terrace. We give you treats and a list of the beaches where you can go, as well as a list of restaurants that allow dogs. When you come home from the beach, we have a garden hose for you to clean up and some fluffy towels to dry off. You can hang out in the garden and nap, or play with me or some of the other dog guests. We’re always respectful of the human guests, so your family has to pay attention and clean up after you and you have to be polite to the humans.

A very lovely place. The host is very friendly and helpful. Nice breakfast overlooking the garden. Beau the dog is lovely too!
If you’re traveling without a dog, you might enjoy my services as a doggy therapist. You can pet me for minutes or for hours. You can talk to me about anything. And you can throw the ball for me to retrieve. We can play tug. Or I can just nap in the grass while you read a book in the garden. I will always be waiting for you to come back to the hotel and will say hi with my big wagging tail and a little wiggle. I might even howl with pleasure when I see you.
We welcome nice people and dogs at La Joyuca. We treat everyone with respect, including the dogs, because they are “people” too. If you decide to visit beautiful Cantabria, with its gorgeous beaches and mountains, we hope you will come stay with us. I’ll meet you at the front door!
